Twenty-one years in cinema left Brigitte Bardot with a healthy dislike of the film business and a love of animals. In 1973, Brigitte Bardot walked off the set for the last time, into a new life devoted entirely to the well-being of animals. “I gave my beauty and my youth to men. I am going to give my wisdom and experience to animals.” The Brigitte Bardot Foundation now supports animal welfare causes the world over. In her honor, Greenpeace named one of its ships the Brigitte Bardot. She of course has had many beloved animals herself, including the cat Rontonton, who became something of a national cause when he ran off and she offered a reward for finding him.
